Micro Endoscopic Discectomy

A micro endoscopic discectomy is a surgical procedure performed to relieve the pain associated with irritated nerve roots that are pressed upon by herniated disc tissue. Herniated discs occur when there is a tear in a spinal disc which allows disc material to push against nerve roots.

This minimally invasive procedure begins with a guide wire being inserted into a small incision. Using a portable X-ray machine, the surgeon positions the wire in the correct location to reach the herniated disc and clears away any bone and soft tissue around it, before removing the herniated portion of the damaged disc.

Once the surgeon confirms the disc is no longer pressing on nerve roots, a small bandage is placed over the incision. We perform this procedure as outpatient. Patients are usually able to return home the same day.
